Default Sports mode?

I have a 04 XSE auto model. It has sports button. What exactly does it do? I want to try it out, but I heard it makes the gearbox become manual. I cannot drive manual considering I'm only licensed to drive auto

thanks

From the handbook:

Quote:
Sport program
Press button S once the engine has been started.
The gearbox automatically favours sporty driving
M is manual mode.

Thanks for the reply. What exactly does that mean? Does it really change anything? I have no idea about cars really.

When you're driving a manual car 'normally', you would change gear at certain points. When driving in a more 'sporty' manner, you would change gear later, revving the engine more. I would guess that the sport mode on an automatic gearbox would do the same, i.e. allow the engine revs to go higher before changing up.

Try it. Find a quiet, straight road and accelerate from standstill in normal mode, noting how high the rev counter goes. Then do the same thing in sport mode, you might notice the rev counter reaches a higher reading.
