Default Gearbox knocking

Hello everyone i have a semi automatic 2003 307 1.6 16 valve its done 136000 miles. Every now and then it has a knock in the gear box and it displays automatic transmission fault . Its happened after 257 miles 100 miles 57 miles then 90 it was less frequent after i dropped the fluid and replaced it. The garage done diagnostics reporting this . A freind whom owns a garage said it was a blocked solanoid valve and not to worry about it due to it being very expensive and more than its worth. Do these have a gearbox fluid filter that i can change? I,ve put a tray underneath the car to see if any fluids leaking it seems fine. What do reckon to do or what the problem is. As it would be nice to solve it and drive along without the car banging and frightening the life out of the missus.
Thanks for your time from andy brown
