Default Anti pollution fault

Hello,

I bought a second hand Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI from a private seller a couple of weeks ago. It was driving fine during the test drive and for a couple of days and then an anti pollution fault light came on. Didn't really affect anything and the light would go off sometimes and come back on sometimes... after googling I tried putting a diesel additive in. This seemed to help for a few days. But the light came back on. I cleaned the fuel cap and again this helped but only for about a day.
Now when the fault light comes on the STOP light also comes on and all power to the engine cuts off. This has happened when going 60 miles an hour and also when in the middle of a junction. After a few minutes it will turn back on and allow me to drive home.
It's obvious the guy sold me a car he knew was faulty as he won't reply to my messages. I'm so upset. I used the last of my savings to purchase this car and as a single mother to three children (one of whom has a disability) I desperately needed a car to get the kids around. I cannot afford to take it to a garage. And I know nothing about cars myself... Someone help! 😞

Antipollution means nothing it can come on for anything most wrongly think it means the DPF is the issue but although it can be DPF related it is not a DPF message.

As for the seller knowing the issue this is just the chance you take buying privately.

You NEED someone who knows peugeots to look at it not a main dealer

Without a diagnostic you will never know

If the car cuts out it will be logged as a major fault

What engine is it

It's a 1.6 hdi.
Yes the engine cuts out completely. After a few seconds I can turn it back on. I filled it with diesel today and a dpf cleaner additive. It isn't quite as sluggish as it was but the light is still on.

You dont need the DPF cleaner you might not even have a DPF !!

If it cuts out that alone can be enough to throw an antipollution message as thats what it is a badly worded MESSAGE telling you something is wrong its not a fault !

As already said you need to plug it in and look at various things not just read fault codes.

😥 I cant afford to take it anywhere. May have to get rid and be carless. Very annoyed that someone would sell me a faulty car especially when they knew my situation. Thanks anyway.

Thats a very silly attitude you cant afford to not have a car either the REAL fault could be a simple fix without some form of diagnostics you will never know !

I wish I didn't have to have that attitude. But I simply can't afford to go to a garage.

You dont need to go to a garage there are plenty people on here who can help but it would be useful if you filled in your location on your profile as someone local may be able to help you out by plugging it in lots of members have diagnostic gear of their own once we have an idea where the issue really is we can then advise best course of action without info nobody knows whats really wrong.
