Default 307 sw humming noise

Hi wondering if anyone can help.
I drive a 2003 307 sw estate. Recently i've noticed a humming/drumming noise which appears to be coming from the rear passenger side, its not really noticeable under 50mph. There was a slight squealing noise a couple of weeks ago when I drove the car for about 4 hours but this was towards the end of the journey, have'nt heard this since only the humming noise. Generally though the car is only driven for up to half hour at a time. I've jacked the car and spun the wheels, cant see any play in bearings.
Any ideas?

I used to have the same squealing noise from the rear passenger side a while back until I told my wife to sit in the front, nothing since. Unfortunately I do not know about the humming unless you have a wino hiding in the back.

Check the rear breaks, when mine were making the same noise I had the garage check them out. The mechanic had to remove the breaks and cover plate with a hammer because they were rusted together so badly.

He had to replace the whole assembly :-(

My bearings were humming but looked ok when spinning them, they were in early stages of packing in. Keep using the car and they will get a lot noisier.

thanks all for your replies. today I ran the car for about 20 miles straight run on dual carraigeway. Out of interest I touched the brake disc (not were the pads are in contact) of both rear wheels, one was just warm, the other on the drivers side was a lot hotter. Does this confirm the bearing is at fault?

More likely a binding brake, probably pads stuck due to corrosion on calipers. Either one cant contact the disc and the other cant disengage from it.

Mine did this - up to 40 mph all silent - then a humming sound above this. It was the wheel bearing - it passed the mot as there was no play when spinning the wheel by hand - replaced bearing and all is quiet.

thanks for your replies. I had a quick look today, took both wheels off. There's no play or sound from the bearing bur both discs are slightly binding I think the discs may also be uneven due to wear. I'm going to change the discs and pads as they need changing anyway.
cheers

Changed the rear pads and discs now, both wheels were binding quite badly, but bearings appear ok. However when I took the car out for a run the noise was still evident but not as bad, but i think it may be the front now, its hard to tell?. I've also just noticed one of the front tyres is worn as if the camber is out? any ideas?
thanks
