Default 307 Hdi lambda sensor

Hi there my friend has a 307 Hdi sw estate he attempted to change the lambda sensor the top one behind the battery he removed the battery brackets . He could get a socket over it so he ripped the electrical harness which is attached to the sensor but still couldn't get the socket on to it . I was hoping someone has done this before and could share a rough guide on how they did it thanks
