Default 1.6 16v performance mods

Just looking at getting an idea of what this engine (and affected parts) can handle performance-wise.

So far i've done nothing major, just a performance back-box, all the rest of the exhaust is stock (working to a budget here)

I'm thinking next about an induction kit, perhaps the following model:
K&N 57i INDUCTION KIT PEUGEOT 307 1.6 00-05 57-0484 | eBay

Would it be fairly easy to fit? it seems to come with a lot of spare piping, is that so it can be positioned away from the hot radiator that the factory airbox seems to draw it's air from? Can i expect much of a difference over the factory airbox?

Lastly i'm thinking of an ECU re-map, and i've seen quoted gains of 10-12bhp for my particular model.

I'm essentially looking for a bit more eagerness with the throttle, better response as it were, being such a heavy car i feel it needs a boost.

With all the above taken into account, i won't be pushing my engine or other parts too hard will i?

If your working on a budget forget it. Your better off throwing your money at a 2.0 diesel

Cheapest way to get more performance is to change your car.

Naturally aspirated cars are generally very pricey to gain bhp.

Induction kits are waste of money. The standard induction is the best one available. With aftermarket kits, If the powerloss after installation is under 5%, it has been a succesfull installation. So probably only thing you gain from induction kit is the different noise it makes.

So, porting the cylinder head and remapping the ecu in professional shop is the way to gain bhp on na engine. And 20bhp is about maximum you'd get from it.

If in induction kit offers nothing, then why are they being sold? Sorry i'm a bit newb to all this.

My thinking is stock airbox is restrictive and sucking warm air in from behind the radiator.

New K&N filter will be less restrictive and will be sucking in cold air from elsewhere.

Free'er flowing, cooler air is bad?

They offer a minor improvement, but they're mainly for show or noise!

The stock air system should draw in cold air from the front of the car.

The k&n kit relies on the same piping

Cooler air on its own will actually lean out the mixture meaning the ecu retards the ignition leading to LESS power !!

Induction kits are sold to gulible people who have more money than sense and they think if its noisyer then it MUST be faster

Tuning normaly aspirated engines is expensive and fruitless turbo engines give more bang per buck
