Default Sagem SL96 ECU problem???

Still trying to sort out my brother's 1999 306 Meridian 1.4 petrol. It failed its MOT on high emissions withe advice from the centre that the O2 sensor needs replacing. After several attempts finally bought a sensor that works but pug planet still says no reading malfunction. Following the guidelines we have checked the sensor readings at the socket and everything is as it should be with a reading of 0.9v from the sensor. Reconnected the sensor, cleaned the connections on the ECU socket and plug, then bridged the two connections from the socket which are the same as from the sensor. The conclusion is that the ECU isn't interpreting the sensor. Does this mean the ECU is fupard! or have we missed something.

If the ECU has to be replaced can I just swap the ECU for one of the same part number (9632520280)or do I need to swap the ECU, transponder unit and key? Or anything else.

Reached the stage now where I don't want to spend a lot more money on it as it wouldn't be economical so would probably scrap or sell for spares which would be a shame as it is a nice motor. Mike

Thanks for the quick reply - I feared as much. My dealer said today that it wasn't possible to reprogram an existing ecu. I found 4 ecus on ebay with everything the same except the last number.

If anyone has this one do get in touch!!
Anyone no a cheap source for new ones?


The car failed its MOT because of emissions after my daughter had the main dealer put on a new cat and exhaust and O2 sensor at a cost of 600 plus 4 new Michelins, battery and new front discs and pads because she was going to keep it for at least another year.
Car is totally immaculate with no welding or rust. She bought another car when this all started but had a buyer at 1050

Sorry I couldn't help. We had exactly the same dilemma. The car was immaculate but nothing we did could reduce the fog behind the car every time we started her up. We were lucky to find a buyer to at least recover our costs before we spent too much money. Mike
