Default Yet another key coding question.

I've only got one key with the car, so I just got a brand new blank cut and going to try and program it in the afternoon. As far as I understand I will need both keys programmed at the same time (new and old). I also read that a key can only be programmed once? So how do I add another key? Do I need 2 brand new ones?

You will be programming the new one but when you do that you need the old one so it does not delete it from the car

The key is one-time programmable (actually the transponder in the key). It becomes locked to the vehicle and cannot be used with another vehicle.

The car (actually an electronic box in the car) also has to be programmed to accept the key. Every time that process is performed, the memory of which keys are accepted is wiped, so when a new key is programmed, the remaining keys have to be included in the process. Their transponders, having previously been programmed, will be unaffected.
