Default Water Contaminated Petrol Question

That dreaded moment you know you just put some sh** fuel in your tank. Today it was at Sainsbury's Kingston on the way in to London.

You even know it's happening when the pump starts coughing and spluttering as you're filling up. I've tried complaining before and you get the usual replies like "Nobody else has had a problem" or "It's impossible, that can't happen with our pumps".

Well, it did. And within a mile or so the car starts running like a dog. Most likely water in the fuel. Bloody annoying.

My last car, a 1994 Jaguar XJ40, was very susceptible to this and even had a stupid fuel filler flap design that caused water to get in the tank.

I used to use a Wynns product called Dry Fuel that seemed to work. Any other tricks to try?

You will always get a small amount of water in any fuel the trick is to use a busy petrol station as they get fresh supplies regularly the ones that might only get a fuel delivery every 2 weeks or whatever are the ones to avoid NOT the supermarkets contrary to what some people will have you believe.

I always use supermarket fuel always have always will as they have a high turnover of fuel its always fresh/full.

The pump coughing and spluttering is because the tank is near empty not water.
