Default Replacing a 207 Gearbox

My '08 207 1.4 SW needs a new gearbox.

I have been looking around at different options and I am getting more confused as I go.

I spotted some gearboxes at 2 breakers yards -

The first one told me that any box will fit from another vehicle with the same engine as long as the gear selector bracket on the gearbox housing is made of the same material. Some are plastic, some are metal.

The next breaker told be that the gearbox code should be the same.

I've browsed forums and other places and seen conflicting information.

I've seen that an 207 petrol 1.4 gearbox will fit
I've seen that all the models, codes, specs must be matched up.

The VIN does not give the full picture.

So, I'm looking for a trusted someone to tell me what I need to do. I'm happy to take a chance on a salvaged box as long as there is an element of warranty - the decent yards will give 60 days.

Can somebody tell me -

What is different about different codes?
Are they interchangeable with each other, considering that they are all on the same engine?

Ideally, I would like someone to tell me what to look for exactly.

Cheers

Default Still Struggling

I'm still confused about the correct gearbox to get.

My VIN number is - VF3WE8FSC34307301

The engine is a 1.4 (1397)
Engine code is 8FS

Can somebody please tell me the correct matching gearbox code?
Can somebody please tell me where to find the gearbox code on my existing gearbox?
Can somebody please tell me what the difference is with the plastic or metal gearchange link bracket? Does it matter?

Thanks
