Front wheel off, remove wheel arch liner.

I used to recommend doing this once a year before winter. It always improved the power steering on my mk1. 307.

If you have the electric power steering it's worth knowing that a lot of owners including me have suffered failure of the "Power Steering Module". These failures seem to happen mainly on the early models which had this electric steering (2010 / 2011). The power steering module is an electric motor with built-in electronics box which is attached to the steering rack. To have that unit replaced and set up costs around £600 (at Peugeot) and I had this done on a 2011 year 207 earlier this year. I no longer have the car.

The symptoms tend to start with intermittent power steering errors then it gets worse until the power steering no longer works at all. If you also have other electrical faults at the same time (not just the steering) then the fault is more likely to be something else. Water ingress into the wiring loom has also been discussed many times on here and one symptom of water ingress is loss of power steering (plus other electrical problems all at the same time).

The electric steering failures and also water ingress into the wiring loom have both been discussed many times if you search back through the posts.

I hope that helps.
