Default Exhaust Smoke and burning smell!

Hi everyone, this is my first time here so hope I am posting in right place, apologies if not!

I have had a 2009 207 Hdi 1.6 (66k miles) Sport for 3 years and love it, not had a single problem, until...
I was accelerating on a motorway slip road the other (cold) night. I happened to look in the rearview mirror and saw quite a bit of smoke being kicked out of the exhaust.

This was followed by quite a strong smell of fuel/oil burning in the cab. The smell soon went away and I carried on and all was fine. My wife drove down to Cheltenham from Cheshire this morning (110 miles) with no problems at all. Just wonder what it might have been and if it is cause for any concern?
Thanks very much.

It was serviced in September - when I say serviced it was just a basic oil and filter change and fluids top up. Around 6k miles ago.

I don't think they were changed, no. It was done by a mobile mechanic and I was with him all the time. It was just the oil and oil filter as far as I can remember..
