Question Clunk into third

Hi everyone

New here and a noob to Peugeot so please be kind

I am thinking about buying a 2008 peugeot 207 1.6 hdi and when I had a quick drive there was this clunk almost grind into 3rd, 1st and 2nd seem ok I will be having a better drive of it tomorrow to see if its the same with 4th and 5th.

If i park the car and go thru the gears from 1 to 5 with engine running they all go in sweet but if I lift off the clutch and put it down again and try to go into third the "clunk" is there.
Any idea what it could be?

Oh and also when i turned the ignition off the engine slightly ran on for maybe half a second or less.

Do I need to stay away or could it be something simple like a timing problem like I say i am new to Peugeot so have no idea about them or any other car for that matter.

Thanks in advance
Take care and Happy peugeoting

Walk away. Grinding gears mean internal damage.

My 207 1.6 Hdi has a bit of a clunk/grind going into 3rd gear but it doesn't do it every time. It's done 24K miles and I'm having the Peugeot service in about a months time at 25K miles. My car is a 2011 model still under the Peugeot Warranty so I'll be asking them to look at the problem.
