Common issue on 207. Easy to diagnose with Peugeot diagnostics. Only fitted an ecu to one yesterday. In and out in less than an hour.
What were the specific fault codes?

Not their problem if the car is out of warranty.

Was the garage a dealer or a peugeot specialist?

As in a service dealer. If they have the same amount of info I can get at a main dealer then they should know how to diagnose your car.

Default reconditioned?

I have the same problem with a 07 PUG 207, has anybody fixed this by sending the ECU off for reconditioning? Must be cheaper than a new one.
