Default 207 - 1.6 GTI, Engine failure

Hi all,

Tonight I was driving along and I lost power, steam started coming out the engine so I pulled over. RAC towed us home, he thinks its timing belt gone.
I read that this car is timing chain?

He tried to start the car but it wouldnt fire.

I am not sure I know what to do, is a replacement engine easier than getting into changing the valves/or head?

Does anyone know a good peugeot independant in/near Rochdale?

Help!

Steam coming out is nothing to do with timing belt and to be honest an RAC man should know that !!

Sounds like it has overheated OR the steam was smoke and its ran dry of oil

Replacement would probably be the cheapest option but you will pay at least 500 for a decent used engine.

It made a whistling noise too. Does that sound like the crank seizing?

I just googled and all it comes up with is timing chain issues on this car!

Would you know where I could look for a replacement engine? Anyone reputable?

Thanks

thats bad news, may need a head rebuild if the chain has gone south.

just done a quick test with my old tensioner and new one that came as spare.

old one pushed 8lb at half load and 14lb at max
new one pushed 22lb at half load and 28lb at max

only used bathroom scales so not mega spot on, but if you drive a vti get this checked next service or 60k.
mentioned this before but my tensioner was so weak it allowed the guide rail to be bashed around....and broke it, chain was fine though.

anyway op hope you get it sorted and it doesnt break the bank.
