Default Clunk and Judder when accelerating from coasting

I've just bought my wife a 2015 2008 Allure 1.6 hdi with 18k on the clock. It mainly drives great but when I have taken my foot off the accelerator and then accelerate again in 4th or 5th gear at say mid 30's to 40 mph we get quite a clunk and judder and feel we have to change down before accelerating. Is this normal? It doesn't feel it.
