Default Bad colour smell in coolant

Hello,

I have recently purchased a 2013 Peugeot 2008, 1.6 eHDi.

I notice that the coolant is greyish in colour with very bad smell. Car runs fine with no loss of coolant or over heating.

How easy it is to change coolant in these vehicles? suitable coolant(s)? and should I just flush the system with water or with radiator flush?

Can I use old style blue coloured coolant as I happen to have that and the fact that I plan to get Cambelt changed in an year or so?

Thanks in advance.

The colour of the fluid should be transparent and must feel a little like oil. When it is greyish or white, it is possible that the head gasket is leaking. So, in this case you should check for leaks. Otherwise, it is advisable to change the coolant.

The colour of the coolant should be the same as it was before. If you are not sure check the manual of your car. You cannot mix different colours. Or you should buy mixable coolant https://www.winparts.co.uk/filters-f...e/p308716.html

Thanks Anwin. If I am correct, leaking head gasket almost always result in either oil in coolant or loss of coolant (with emulsification of engine oil). In this case, there is no oil in the coolant and the engine oil is as it should be. Also the level of coolant remains constant. The so called coolant in the car is just very dirty/ greyish in colour with very bad smell.

As I wrote, I have just acquired the car so I do not know what colour the coolant was originally.
