Power Steering ECU problem
I have a 2010 Peugeot 107 verve 1.0 Petrol that I bought a year ago in second hand. Last week the P/S light came on and I lost the power steering but I was still able to drive the car home.
Because the car was still under warranty, I made an appointment with a Peugeot garage to do the repairs. When I was supposed to drive the car to the garage I found out that my battery was also flat.
I had to call in a tow truck to take the car to the garage only to reach the conclusion that steering components were not under warranty.
Now, the garage is asking me for 1200 pounds to repair everything which, in my opinion is way too expensive. I only have 2000 pounds left to pay in the car, so I really don't feel like spending an extra 1200 just for repairs.
The diagnostics that the garage gave me was a flat battery and a faulty Power Steering ECU with code C1554. After some research, this code always leads me to having to replace the ECU.
Now, what I'm considering is to take the car somewhere else to replace the power steering components with salvaged/second hand parts but I've been told that it could not be the ECU itself but the column and/or the motor. On the other hand, I've also been told that I could replace the column and ECU as they usually come together.
What about reprogramming the ECU? Would it be simple for any mechanic or would I have to take the car to a Peugeot garage just for that?
What are your thoughts? I really need the car to get to my job...
