Default starting problems

Hi my father is having trouble with his car starting especially when the engine is hot. The car is getting fuel as you can smell it coming through but it can take several turns of the engine then it will splutter and eventually start, Once the engine has started it drives well but if he pops in a shop and comes out its hell to get going.

He has a 1996 1.1 106 I have read several things what it could be e.g. the coil pack breaking down but have also read there may be a separate ignition module and been told its located on the inner wing but we cannot see no such module so can only presume its built in to the coil pack.

Has anyone come across this problem before and what is the possible solution please.

A 1996 1.1 ,long time since I worked on these,so thinks hard.
I`m pretty sure a 96 106 will not have a coil pack as we know with all the late Peugeot`s.
Now then has it got plug leads? do the plug leads go to a conventional distributor and cap? or a large coil tower?
