Default Help engine wont fire

Hi my father has a 106 1.1 HDZ engine and had the head skimmed and fitted a new headgasket but upon assembling the engine simply will not start there is fuel and spark but for some reason the engine will not fire up and we are at a loss. Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone help with the cure.

thank you
