Default Coolant Issue

HI can anyone help?

WE have a 106 1.1 1997 reg and there is a problem with the coolant, the heater matrix will be hot then suddenly go cold then hot again which we suspect is an air lock and have tried to clear this by removing the bleed valves on the engine and also using a header tank, the engine doesn't overheat it only seems to be affecting the heater inside the car.

The other problem is the cap to the coolant tank, if the car is taken on a long journey you can come home and take the coolant cap off straight away with no pressure in the tank and no hissing.

Can anyone give any suggestions please.

Just guessing, have you flushed the system as heater problem might be sludge in the system, would have thought if you used a header tank and bled the system with the vehicle on level ground you should have got enough air out to stop the matrix air locking although I have had problems with bleeding cooling systems on Pugs before and you can't really assume anything. Would also check water pump although again would have thought there would be overheating problems if this was faulty. As for the expansion tank not pressurising I would check the cap seal as these can typically leak. Failing that is there any 106 experts on here?
