Default changing y reg 1.1 petrol wheel bearing

Right , the sons car has just failed the MOT, 1 thing being a front wheel bearing. The part is about 15 quid but how difficult is the job? Do the bearing have to be pressed out? Is it best to do both of the front wheels at the same time?

They will knock out and knock in but.....

1. They sometimes weld themselves in so need the outer races cutting out (even with access to a press). gas torch if you have one and are good enough with it, or I have used a die grinder with carbide burr to cut through the race to allow the bearing to break out.

2. Heat the hub before pushing / knocking the new one in, and make sure your drift is big enough for the whole bearing.

Be prepared to have take it to your local friendly engineering workshop for them to put it on the press.
