Default Losing drive on automatic

Hi everyone, first time on here. My Dad has a 2007 2tronic, and has a fault on it. When approaching a junction or a hill, the amber exclamation mark warning comes on and the engine will just rev even though still in drive on gearstick. This is worrying him, as is 80 years old. Also, what code reader adapter do I need for this car? Thanks in advance, Martin.

I think the obd reader diagnostic socket is in the glovebox.
