I've tried twisting it both clockwise and anti-clockwise, I've tried pulling upwards.
But all that I get to happen is I end up having the gear selection numbers upside down! Any suggestions please as to how to remove the plasticky gear knob and stick on something a bit more classy? Cheers

Put all my strength into trying to "just pull it off"
No way is it going to budge. Has anyone on the forum actual succeeded in removing one? I'm almost tempted to saw it through the chromium stick just below the plastic gear knob. But that then complicates matters as to how will a new one attach? Getting desperate!!
