peugeot partner will not start

hi i just bought a 2002 peugeot partner he said all it needed was a gear box as 3rd sync has gone replaced that but now i can not get it to start when you turn the key over all the dash light at the bottom turn on horn radio lights the lot works but does not start it makes a ticking noise i just don't know what it could be cheers

Is there an earth to the gearbox and is contacts clean? Thats if it started before the work was done.

Earth sounds likely on the box as Martin said. Maybe a BSI reset?

Is the pickup damaged on the top of the gearbox? It reads rpm.

cheers ive read the post on bsi reset but my key does not any buttons on it is there another way cheers danny
