Default Peugeot Partner 1.9D Engine Problem

Hey Everyone,

I bought a used Peugeot Partner 1.9D Combispace (2007) a couple of weeks ago and while the van itself has been great, it's just developed a fault.

When I took the key out a few days ago the engine was still running for 30 seconds or so, I can only imagine that it's using up fuel still in the line but as I'm not a mechanic my thoughts on that carry no weight.

Since it did this, the next time I tried to start it took a good while. You can hear the starter motor going and that sounds fine but the engine just won't start. It's been getting worse and worse, every time I get in it takes longer to start. This is the same regardless of whether the engine is warm or not.

The engine keeps running every time without the key; I assumed stalling it would stop it from using whatever fuel it was and make it easier to start but that hasn't been the case.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of a possible cause / solution?

Many thanks, Nathan

Sounds like something isn't stopping the fuel getting to the engine when you turn off the key, and then the fuel in the lines is getting drained. Next thing you know there will be so much air in the system it'll need bled. Not an expert but I'd look for a solenoid valve sticking open on the fuel system somewhere. Something not closing is probably leading to fuel draining back into the tank.

Thanks for your response. I'm probably going to take it in and let a mechanic give it the once over at some point this week. Unless of course buying a new solenoid would help.

Cheers, Nathan

It's only a guess I'm afraid! It's what I'd be looking for is all. Whatever happens, let us know how you get on. Maybe someone else here will know better than me!

Good luck! Oh, and welcome to the forum!
