Default Partner Overheating

Hi all,

I bought a used '54 Partner DW engine last year and it has been a fantastc little van. Lately the engine has started to overheat, firstly when I was trundling down the M4 and recently when stationary in traffic. Upon checking the coolant tank there was more than enough coolant in it, but I added a little bit more and that seemed to solve the issue. Six weeks later and it's happening again, the engine heat gauge is creeping up again.

I've got a Hanes manual and thought I'd take a look, but ended up more confused.
  1. The manual say sthere are two bue wires coming out of the rad. Well I had the front grill/bumper off last night and couldn't locate any wires.
  2. I checked the fuses and they're ok. Couldn't locate any relays though for anything. Are they around?
  3. The fan and rad are not blocked or gunged up with anything
  4. In all the while I've been driving my van I've never heard the fan come on to cool it down. Should the fan run even after the engine is off?

I'd like to ask whether anyone out there has had any similar problems, or more helpfully, if anyone's got any advice? The Hanes manual has not been very helpful on this occasion.

Many thanks in advance.
