Default Partner: lumpy starting

Good afternoon, what a fantastic site.

My first post on this forum, so if go wrong, i will apologise now.

Peugeot Partner Van. 1.9 Diesel non turbo, DW series.

Never had any starting issues, and never did mis a beat. Used it over the Christmas period, up and down the country, never been a fast driver, 50/60 mile an hour !!

Now had to get somewhere pretty quick last week, so opened her up a little, around 80/90 at times...yes i know, naughty boy

Since then, first start in the morning from cold, she runs very uneven, lumpy, and dark smoke from the rear pipe.

This happens for no more than around 5 seconds, then like magic runs perfect.....and she will continue to run perfect the rest of the day !!!!!! Its always first start from over night parking.

I was told it maybe a sticky injector, but i thought i would rather ask you guys out there first.

Many thanks in advance.

Get the heater plugs checked. I reckon you have one or two gone. Not quite all gone yet to as to impede starting.

Many thanks for your reply David.

I suppose thinking about it logically, as you say, if one or maybe two are failing, those two will have unburnt fuel in the barrels, hence the smell of unburnt fuel on start up, and smoke, although this is not a significant amount. Its the other two heater plugs that still have enough power to turn, and fire the engine at the moment....

Tell me David, do plugs either work, or don't work, i think I'm right in saying there is a specific ohms reading of 8 ! Is it either 0 or 8, or does this reading dwindle over a period of time ?

Many thanks again.

Regards Dave.

Ok, replaced all 4 Glow plugs yesterday, also cleaned all the black oily sludge out of the EGR. Took her for drive....no problems.

Left her over night, cold and frosty this morning, turned the key, she fired first time, and coughed for about half a second.... much better than before.

Suppose thats the norm then....
