Partner Combi 1.6 HDi MPG

Hello
I have just bought a 2008 Peugeot Partner Combi 1.6 HDi
I have just filled up after my first decent run of 145 miles (on A roads) and my MPG is 42
I thought I would get more, am I expecting too much as the magazines say average mpg is 52
what does other owners get ?
I love the car, ideal for camping

Have the same on my 1.6hdi 407 ,about 45mpg out of town and 37mpg round town.
