Hi, I have a 56 plate HDI with bad black smoke on accelaration. I am getting P0104 and P0113 which are MAF and inlet air temp circuit codes. Also today I got P409 which is the EGR circuit.
I have disconnected the MAF which was causing missfires but not got a new 1 on yet. That did not make a difference to the smoke though. Other things I've checked are: EGR valve disconnected- no change EGR valve motor top off and manually operated - seems free and when closed does not change anything turbo seems to spin ok 1 min idling produces about 2 cups of oil from the turbo drain hose so plenty flow there Disconnected cat from the turbo so turbo exhausting straight into engine bay - no change Throttle valve is working turbo actuator is working (maybe a little slowly but could be a result of the engine reving so slowly ) Anybody else had similar problems or any other ideas? Am thinking Wireing or injectors now |

Put an airflow meter on it. Check wiring to the ecu from it also. Check for 5v supply to it from ecu.

Thanks for the reply, What voltages would you expect from which pin? I'm getting anywhere between 0V and 14.5V depending on which 2 I measure between.

Just measure from each pin and earth ie the battery negative. Post up results.

Ok got them:
1 - 5V 2 - 0.04V 3 - 0v 4 - 14.3v 5 - 13v 6 - 0v Also noticed that with just the ignition on there is a high pitched electrical hum comming from the egr butterfly throttle and somewhere down the back of the engine around the diesel pump area. The hum is constant and does not stop until a few secods after the ignition is turned off. |

The one way valve on the brake servo is failing. Had a few of them.

So the voltages are ok? Is the valve in the servo causing problems with the vacuum actuator on the turbo? Is the valve replaceable or is it a new servo job?

Ok I checked the vacuum theory today by connection the vacuum supply for the Turbo actuator solenoid to another cars vacuum system and that did not make any difference. The smoke has gone with a new MAF sensor though but still has no power at all. I've cleared the fault codes and taken it for a run to my mates house to compare with his 07 berlingo with, what should be the same engine to compare turbo actuator motion. His has a wastegate turbo and mine has a bigger VG turbo?? Both have 9HW as the engine code in the VIN, has mine had a different turbo on it?
I got another fault code on my ride out - P0238 Turbocharger Boost Sensor (A) Circuit High Input but changing the inlet pressure sensor did not change anything still no power. Any other ideas. Also does anyone know if you need Lexia and Pug planet to see live data or will any OBDII software and connector get you in with some sort of data if not full access? |

IF enyone else has the 1.6 HDI with a VG turbo (actuator hanging directly below the turbo with actuator rod vertical up to linkage)
Please could you post a description of what the actuator does when the engine is revved? Mine goes down when the engine is first started then up when the throttle is pushed hard and backs off a bit when the revs get higher. If the throttles blipped hard it shoots up and back down again. When the engine is off its all the way up. |

Nobody got a Garrett turbo on their 1.6 partner?
