hi all, i have just got a 1.9d 1999 expert, but every lock apart from the ignition barrel is spinning and wont unlock or lock, it does every now and again lock and unlock. i have had it all apart and all seems ok. is this a common fault and would it just be worn lock barrels.
my van has a red light on the top of the dash that doesnt seem to do anything! it doesnt have central locking but would it have a alarm?? I only have one key witch is normal with no buttons etc. |

The old 'spinning locks' problems is very common on experts, citroen dispatch, and fiat scudos as they are all the same van, with age it happens through dirt build up or severe lock pin wear, where the key is no longer fits/recognised by the barrel pins, However it is a built in security measure even on new barrels against somebody trying a similar key, say from another expert, so they are supposed to do it, but not with the correct key.
The only thing you could try that has worked for many people is to remove all the locks and soak them in a good penetrating fluid, for at least overnight, this should loosen/ remove all the crud that builds up in them, then fit and try them. It usually works, but if not they are worn and your only solution is to buy new barrels at around £120. As for the red L.E.D. on the dash that is for the engine immobiliser (standard equipment on these vans and operated by a transponder fitted in the key, but in some rare cases a keypad), it should illuminate a couple of seconds after the ignition has been switched off and the key removed, if not, it could either be a case of the L.E.D. has blown or the immobilser is faulty, but id doubt that very much. Hope this helps |

has anybody removed your cylinders and got into your van. Expert, dispatch and scudo cylinders(pre 2007) can be removed with a thin screwdriver whilst wearing a boxing glove. Not a very good design. There are cylinders on the market which can be purchased and fitted for a cost of approx £300+. For this price you get five new cylinders which, instead of just clipping into place, are bolted instead.
If your cylinders are ok, then why not let Lem locksafe convert them for you and fit them in the same manner as the expensive version. if your van is suffering from the ''spinning lock problem'', then we can usually cure this as well. Why not have both problems cured at the same time. if you need any info, or a quote for any work, then please email: lem_locksafe@hotmail.co.uk and I will get back to you. thanks |
