Expert 1.6 2007

I'm a newbie on this site so apologies if this problem has cropped up elsewhere. I've had this 1.6 Expert for about 4 months now and in general very pleased.

However, on start up from cold there's a fair bit of smoke and the engine sounds very lumpy - poor idle. Drive away and the problem is gone within a couple of hundred yards. No smoke on start up from warm. The van dealer mentioned this when I bought the vehicle and said it was the EGR valve and that "they all do it".

Any comments as to the validity. I've had an Expert 1.9 as a company vehicle and never had the problem, so is it something about this engine, or is it time to spend money?
