Boxer mk2 2003 ignition barrel

I have just purchased new barrels and keys all round for my van which has had the original locks replaced.

If I change the ignition barrel will I have to have the transponder recoded to the new keys?

I dont want to change the barrel and find I cannot start the van up so if anyone can help on this issue it would be appreciated.

maybe you could leave the original key taped up inside near the ignition barrel
