boxer 1999 1.9d gearbox

hi i got a cheap van with a dead engine oil was every were i never got it running so i sourced a engine and removed the old one the bell housing was covered in black oil there was streaks on the pressure plate none on flywheel looks like it came from centre out wards that not what i think it is hope not dose the gear oil turn black i haven't put engine in yet how hard is it to change spigot seal

turned out fine in the end nothing wrong with it past mot little welding couple bulbs drives great well chuffed
