Default 2008 Partner combi lumpy starting & smokey on startup VIDEOS now added

I have a 2008 partner combi with the 1.6hdi engine
I have found that starting from cold it sounds a bit lumpy for the first few seconds and I get a small puff of smoke when it fires.
It seems to fire right away with out having to crank for long
It's fine after the first start, at first I thought it was the cold weather but now I am wondering if the glowplugs need changing.
It has done 43500 miles and I have only owned it for 3 months so don't know if or when they need changing
the mpg was poor when I first had it (42mpg) so I stuck a tank of redex diesel cleaner through it and now it's doing 46.2mpg but I don't know if thats why it's started to smoke now on start up, Can't remember it doing it when I first had it as I was standing behind it when I went to look at it at the garage
thanks
David

Hya , Although I'm not at an expert , i posted a similar problem with my Partner. I must say mine isn't the HDI version , shes a DW8 series. When testing my glow plugs i found 2 where ok , the third below standard , and the forth was totally dead , yet like you , she cranked and started first time.

Anyhow changed all four , and haven't had a problem since. I'm not saying that will cure your situation , just thought the info may help.

Get a diagnostic check done. If there are any faults relating to preheat/control relay then the heater plugs need replacing.
They are not essential in a 1.6hdi, 9hy/9hu/ engine without particle filter. But changing them will fix your lumpy idle.
As I said get it checked first and post up the faults.

got back today after visiting the dealers and no problems found
They had a 2008 model the same as mine with 28k on the clock and that started like mine with a bit of smoke at the start.
Also spoke to some one else in the village who has a 2006 with 60k and that smokes as well so it must be a common thing on these when starting up from cold
thanks
David

if you get a smell of that blue/white smoke then you should know weather its burnt diesel or burnt oil....report back....

I'd reckon the ecu will have a faults relating to pre/post heating relay circuit, spark plugs not supplied.
This fault is heater plug failure.
