Yes. Remaps, tuning boxes, big intercoolers, cams, headwork, trick turbos, etc, can all be done, but still won't give you as much as the 2.7 HDi, and insurers will ream your bottom.

Why not just buy a pug with more powerful diesel engine variant (and with bigger brakes as standard)?

The first thing that you need to do is get rid of the FAP filter and the catalysator, or at least get it cleaned. That should wake 5-10bhp.
Next it's the remaping/chiptuning.
I think that after those things done you will be more than happy with your car, which will be around 165-175bhp(it depends on the remaping)

Default remapping

hello

the easiest and quickest way of tuning your peugeot hdi engine is with a remap, the remap is only as good as your engine(is it in good running order, kept up to service schedule, boost pipes secure.have it remapped by a good tuner and you will have no probs at all.
in most cases as silly as it sounds the engine if looked after and serviced frequently will last longer than a car without a map as you are not pushing the engine and associated parts as hard to get the power you want from the car.driven correctly an increase in mpg will also be apparent.
