Default Peugeot 307 XSi 1600cc Petrol

Hello my car is a 307 xsi with 110ps. I want to increase its power while accelerating. I think i need to modify the engine to give all of its power starting from low rpm (ie from 2500rpm).

I was told to remove the original catalyst and replace it with a new one sports catalyst and a better exhaust.

what do you think i should do?

thank you in advance!

Sports cat/exhaust might get you 3 or 4 bhp, but only at maximum power rpm. A mod that is definitely overrated as a 'power gain vs money spent' mod, in my book. Most standard exhausts, even with a cat, flow well enough not to bother with any mods. You certainly won't notice much difference, apart from the noise.

You could also spend a shed-load of money on cams, valves, cylinder heads, inlet manifolds, exhaust manifolds, etc. Again, not much gain for money spent, and the power isn't where you want it.

Have known some to spend thousands for 20 bhp!

There are remaps available, but on a non-turbo engine, they are a lot of money for not much gain. Although, some can be custom made to suit the requirements that you want.

You could do the usual performance air filter mod, but there again, you're only going to normally see gains at the high end of the revs.

What I always do, on my motorcycles, to get better acceleration, is to go up a couple of teeth on the back sprocket. But there again, it's not something that's easily done on a car. But it's certainly the best way of getting what you want ("I want to increase its power while accelerating"). Maybe there's a gearbox that can fitted that has a lower final drive ratio? It'll increase acceleration, but cut top speed.

So it's not an easy thing to do on a non-turbo petrol engine, since most of the mods available only boost top end power. And even then, not by much.

Have you thought about changing it for a diesel?

hi, sorry for my late reply but i was afk for sometime.
Well changing the whole engine from petrol to diesel it's not a simple matter. In addition to that greek law doesnt let you have diesel engines in some cities, included mine! So i cant transform to diesel.

I discussed it with a guy i met yesterday who has a garage, and told me i should go for a turbine. Is it possible?? What other changes i must do in the engine in order to be able to work along with turbo?

Unfortunately, adding a turbo to your engine is vastly more complicated and more expensive than any of the suggestions that I gave earlier.

Practically every single part of your engine internals (low compression pistons, etc), fuel injection system (ECU map, etc), exhaust system (turbo, etc), would need to be changed.

is it possible to write a list of all the parts that need to be changed? With your list i could search for every single part and maybe i can get some parts for low cost or free. thank you very much for the quick response

I think its being a bit drastic with these changes. I mean even if you spend all your money putting a turbo on it or some changes, it not gonna give you too much. For all the effort, your not gonna get that much out of it. If you want to improve MPG and performance, just service it often and buy decent filters and fluids.

If I remember right, you'll have to register that its now a turbo or whatever changes you've made and as much as you can get away with changing the sound system or exterior without telling the insurance, you're gonna have to for a turbo or engine changes. More hassle than its worth.

Why didn't you just get the 2.0ltr model? And I can tell you from experience, my 1.6ltr has a quicker pull off than our 2.0ltr XSI. My partner catches me on distance. The 1.6ltr is lighter because it not such a heavy engine and less padding for noise.

The only thing I'm doing to mine, engine wise, is put a K&N filter system in and decent filters.

You could ask around and see if someone can remap it for a little more midrange pull. Otherwise, your options are either very limited or very expensive.

Any list of parts to modify your engine for a turbo would probably be more than the car itself is worth.

Think you need a 2.0!
