Default Dump valve

Hi just bought my first Peugeot a few week ago. Its a 407 2lt HDI. Just been looking on ebay for a few bits for it and came across a dump valve. Ive never had a HDI before so not sure if this kind of engine would benefit from one or would i be wasting my time? Always though dump valves were for Petrol turbos.

i wouldnt bother mate, your car will already be at the recommended levels...you can take it further by removing the DPF/FAP if fitted and getting a good remap to account this.

adding a dump valve will make you sound like a knob on the road....in my personal opinion.

i see peugeot 206's etc with chavs driving and they think its fast and awesome for a dump valve on their big gay boy exhausts....i just laugh at them.

but everyone to their own lol

Lol yeah John I guess your right. Wasn't to keen on the noise to be honest just thought it minght be alittle healthier for the engine but I guess there is better things I could do.

I agree with John,

Dump valves (IMO) attract the wrong kind of attention. I have read somewhere (I cannot remember where :S) that they aren't really of benefit to diesels.

As john said, removing the FAP and getting a remap to suite is a good way of harnessing extra power and avoiding well-known problems.

I know the following link is from a website that obviously wants to sell the FAP removal, but it just goes to show what a difference the FAP can make to standard power (reduce it when clogged), and the potential that can be unlocked with a map:

Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF)- Are they all bad?

A (BMW ) 535d standard should put out a lot more than the figures on that RR say.

I haven't had my FAP removed, but I can confirm that a remap is worthwhile on peugeot diesels!

Thanks Adam I'll take a look. Would love a remap but abit costly. Getting married next year, I'll hint to my partner. Maybe it could be our wedding gift to each other. It will get her to the airport quicker for the honeymoon lol

Congrats on the wedding plans

Good luck on the remap front - my girlfriend doesn't tolerate car talk unfortunately!

When my FAP starts playing up in the future, my route will be:

-'Oh no...my FAP has clogged'
....
-'Ahhh, it's very expensive to replace/repair'
....
-'Oooo, found a company that can remove it and remap my car to suite'
....
-'The saving could be spent on a holiday couldn't it?'

Wardy likes this.

I don't thrash my cars but don't really do the speed limit either. So what's the chance of mine clogging up? Is it a common problem?

I'm no expert on this, nor have I experienced any problems, but from what I have read on this forum, and what I have read elsewhere, the 'anti-pollutant fault' message seems to crop up a lot on diesel Pugs with FAPs.

From what I understand (I may be wrong), doing lots of town driving (stop-start stuff) doesn't allow the car to go through a full regen of the FAP (why the fan sometimes stays on after switching off - this is the car putting the FAP through a regen), which eventually leads to it getting clogged. Motorway driving (higher speeds) are meant to generate enough heat to clear out the filter.

I wouldn't worry about it - the fact that people usually only go onto the internet when they have problems to look up means that the severity of the problem will appear worse than it is in reality.

My 1.6hdi did a lot of town driving. & i used to get the "particulate filter regeneration cycle urgent" warning often. Just take it for a drive down the motorway every weekend and you should be fine or whenever the warning comes up

in a manual i read related to another manufacturer (fiat) its recommended to take the car down a motorway/dual carriageway and keep the revs above 3k for about 20 minutes for the car to a full regen...some people say 3k some say 4k, mind you i dont like the sound of a diesel going over 4k
