Hope someone can help - I have a 1998 Peugeot 806, and i was driving along tonight, and when i pressed the clutch pedal to change gear, the pedal made a snapping sound, and stayed on the floor, meaning i couldn't change gear. I pulled over, and pulled the pedal up. Tried again, and pedal stayed on the floor when pressed. I pulled it up again, and have left it. The clutch was replaced about 5 months ago. When the pedal is pressed to the floor, and i try to put it in to gear, you can feel the car trying to get into geat. Does this mean i have to get a new clutch cable? Also, is there anything i can do temporarily just to get the car home - it is about 1 mile from home.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. |

Not sure if they're cable or hydraulic (most later pugs are hydraulic) but if it is cable it could be busted.
Alternatively, the clutch cover plate could've collapsed.

I had the same problem on my '98 806 recently - it was the clutch cable that had snapped. About £35 from Peugeot, and make sure you don't remove the plastic collar from the outside of the self-adjuster on the outer cable, where it goes through the bulkhead at the pedal end, until you've connected the inner cable at both ends...good luck.

you can force it in gear whilst the car is moving as its only a mile off then it wouldnt take much life off the gear box (you wont need to change the gearbox as a result (but dont get excited as continuosly doing this will definately send your box to the graveyard within a week!

Put it in 1st then start the engine to move off. If you match the revs to the speed you should be able to change gear ok. Going up the gears is ok, down is tricky! Hope there aren't too many traffic lights or road ends!
Just realised this is an old post and said car should be safely home by now!!!

Used to do it in the works van all the time! Not my gearbox!
Had to bring an Escort van 16 miles one time with no clutch. Much fun through the town!
