Permanent or temporary?
If the latter download the XP compatibility pack or Virtual PC. The main thing to check is that there are drivers for your Netbook before making any permanent change.

Yes you can if you do a complete fresh install of xp....You have to wipe the lot tho...oh and being a netbook, does it have a dvd rom, if not then you will need to make the dreaded bootable usb....

ive got a laptop running vista and (i think) the install discs for my old desktop (xp) can i just put the xp discs in without bolloxing it all up ................HIJACK.............BTW

The best way would be to get an external cdrom, format the HDD, then install XP from scratch. Do you have XP on CD? I can get you one if you need it.
You could also do it with a bootable USB, but it can be troublesome! I also use a USB to SATA device to connect any regular Sata CDrom to USB, cheap enough from ebay or anywhere, good to have around also, can connect any hdd as an external one.
