for me same as CAB above...but if you just want to surf net and use usb ports (for pp2000) then netbooks is for you. however they do not come with a cd drive installed. everything has to be usb'd like a usb cd drive or copy files to a large usb pen. most now come with windows 7 installed. you will have to figure a way of installing windows xp as its not a simple case of copying the files from the disk.

batteries on most newer laptops go for around 7 - 8 hours depending on usage...or if like mine lasts for 30 mins (4 year old)

Has anybody got windows 7 Pro Edition?

I've just ordered a Vaio. Core i-3, 4Gb RAM, HD Radeon (512) - mainly for the dedicated graphics so I can run AutoCAD and Inventor at home.

And play games probably the old warcrafts/red alert/age of empires... maybe even transport tycoon

anyway if you haven't got a laptop yet, and want one for performance and half decent graphics, I'll tell you whether to get this or not.

Why not try the sony website and customise your own vaio? It starts at a set price but you can downgrade the hard disk or even the colour of the laptop (I double checked if this was true and changed the colour from matt black to matt white and it knocked £40 off)

MENTAL!

I like laptops myself, 17" is a bit of the big and bulky side perhaps better with with a 15" screen. Always had a good exeriance with Hp's not a fan of ibms seen to many dells with keys missing. when you say the thing is goosed was it turned on at the time or off when it was spilled ! if it was off it may not be a loss. You may be able to strip it down (security torx are usually fitted ) you have nothing to loose, you can also recover your hard drive to a cheap caddy and use it as a slave or portable drive as well !

IMHO you can t beat a laptop.@ saveonlaptops.co.uk is by far the cheapest and if you live near brum you can normally collect the very same day although delivery is dirt cheap anyhow.
