Default Call from Microsoft (apparently)

So the other day the phone rings i answer it and on the other end the bloke says hello and says is that mr so and so, i say yeah he says he is calling from microsoft (sounded like he was calling from india) and started to firmly tell me about why i keep getting pop ups on my comp regarding errors and updates, i dont really get that many well no more than usual, he then continued to tell me that i can buy some software today to get rid of them, i straight away but in to his selling pitch and kindly thanked him for wasting my time then proceeded to hang up on him. (this is the polite version my wife got the other version of this story just after i hung up lol)

Has anyone else had this?

Not personally.... but there are loads of cons out there... and I very much doubt he had anything whatsoever to do with Microsoft!
Never let them do anything to your PC... you'll pay the price if you do!

I had one a few weeks ago from some Indian woman claiming that there company was in parnership with Microsoft and I quote "Your computer has been sending our errenuous and unsolicoted files".
Had a good lil chat with her about why my pc would send such files. To which she kept saying it does it automatically
She wanted me to go onto a website and download her program.
I just kept asking questions etc until she got angry and hung up

My Gran also gets them and she leads them on. When they ask can she switch her computer on lets them know she dosen't own a computer

bailes this sounds very similar to the one i got, but my one was a bloke, he was like "you no those error pop ups right" i said yeah, he said "these are caused by a error in your registry right" i said if you say so.
the worrying thing was how did he no my name? maybe some kind of mailing list or sommit i guess.

haha i so so so so wish to receive one of these calls...lets see who knows more about computers...me being an IT specialist in the RAF or someone pretending to be from MS.

first thing ill ask is there microsoft employee number, what dept they work in and to ask where they got my number...

if they respond with "we got your number from your error files" ill retort "errr...wrong answer, due to terms and cons of sending error files, it says it is anomonous (sorry cant spell) and it doesnt hold that data"

ill then tell them that i will be contacting my phone company to get their phone number and will be reporting them to the TPS and to MS themselves.

love getting the con men back

I got a BTEC National Diploma in IT along with my Cisco CCNA Discovery (mini CCNA basically) and my ECDL and what not.
So you can just make crap up, stick acronyms on everything and they just say "Well you pc sends them out automatically sir"

Default Interesting, for me, they came from the bank

They are trying to get me sent money over to certain account by saying, 'your money is not secure, sir'. Then I replied, I'm not interesting about moving the money, do you also provide take-out food service? I'd rather to order one. Con: hang up
