Fiat Scudo.(but same spec I believe as E7 and Peugeot Partner? TW200 Taxi Registered July 2006; 1997cc (Diesel). Reg SF06FNJ. 166000 miles; Vin ZFAA2000086262990
Fully serviced 164000 miles (oil, fuel filter, air filter I had a power loss at speed. I thought it was the thick rubber mat I purchased for the drivers footwell not allowing the "pedal to the metal" This cause I think can now be dismissed. This has all occurred after having a Cambelt change + waterpump and camshaft oil seal replaced some weeks before all of this started...coincidence? Then had two bottles of STP diesel injector cleaner in half tank of fuel...this improved matters, but possibly just another problem creeping up? I then bought a can of MAF sensor cleaner and gave the sensor a good seeing to with it. This had profound results and had me thinking I had it sorted. Not so...still I had the irregular power loss, normally at times I needed the most. It would remain unturboed at anything over 50 and drove it seemed like a lead balloon in "limp mode" At NO time throughout all this has the MIL come on (the yellow one above the air bag warning light, shaped like an engine) I do have the airbag light on permanent glow since I frigged away behind the dashboard lights. This has been on before...and gone out...then come on again...etc. Been told this happens often if disturbed and stays on for so many door opens/ignition turns??? Ahso!...must need a new MAF sensor thought I...simple jobbie; I had already taken the old one out to clean. So ordered a cheap n cheerful one from ebay for £29.99p. While waiting for this I still had the problem and was advised by a mate in the trade never buy a cheapo MAF...will not last 5 mins...he had a genuine VDO one on the shelf £83 Guvnor! Thinking I must be the green dream of every salesman I bought it, fitted it and to be honest, performance below 45mph is better than ever! Goes like a rocket when needed. But...still, the power faltered at Motorway speed. Particularly when loaded and going up slight to severe hills...it went again into what I feel seems like limp mode but without the MIL lighting up. Normal performance restores at the lower speeds and sometimes if you stop and restart the engine. It can most times cruise comfortably at 60-70mph...its only when acceleration is needed it drops back again. So its not a major problem at the moment...but do not want to carry on like this if the problems compounding to a major issue. I have been trying to have diagnostic software to save a trip to main dealer, quite apart from the time involved and it has to left on the road outside after my night shift I am shy of the cost, particularly with past experience that every item must be replaced before they can go onto the next stage of testing...once they have cleared the part departments shelves at my expense, only then will they throw hands in the air "Dont know!" Having failed to get the readings I need (timing, OBD2 DTC and air flow with a purchased (£15) ELM 327 interface plug/USB to various software supplied I am currently in deep view to commitment for Peugeot Planet OBD and am in process with this elsewhere on the forum. Anyone think this is worth a hook up to main dealer? or trip to one of the guys on the PP map? Tonight, in its rocket mode around the ring roads I could hear a new sound from the turbo when it cut in at high revs...sounded like a very faint "tinny pinging" so am taking things a lot easier on the engine till I have this sorted. I have had suggestions it could be the turbo "coked up", some mention over boosting without any explanation of what exactly they mean...with all this sorry tale have any of you guys here any thoughts? All and any would be so much appreciated! Andy |

A whistle has just developed only when the turbo is gunned up, coming low from the gearbox side of the engine heard in the cabin...I am hopeful its a split hose as has been suggested before. Further hopeful this is the cause of all my woes. Cannot get under to take a look so it looks as if it will have to wait till Monday. Can anyone advise please where I should be looking, been told its a short hose from the turbo out-pipe that normally busts but they only sell the whole hose assembly from the front radiator to the back?

Its got me scratching my head now! All pipes to turbo, though a little oily they all look fine. I have spotted a thin rubber pipe that seems to go from the main intercooler hose up to a switch "gizmo" below the air filter. Very slight hissing sound from it when engine revved up... what is this and is it normal to hiss like it does?
Have to find some of this pipe and replace just to remove it from the suspect list I expect. Last edited by Archbishop; 12-06-2011 at 12:52 AM. |

Right! Fixed the bugger!
Dissapointed no suggestions here, but after a tin whistling was heard in the cabin, starting up from low gearbox side of engine whenever Turbo cut in, or tried to...had been told elsewhere it could be a leak in the intercooler. Following the big hefty air hose from the turbo to intercooler radiator I thought this is where I shall find the culprit leak that refused to whistle again when I had the hood up, after crawling under, pulling the fluff from my belly button on the diesel cooler and getting proper messy like I used to years ago there was not a sign of a pin prick, tear or similar anywhere along the entire length??? So ambled back up with suitable cursing to take a look from above...nothing? But there was a 10mm rubber hose going from intercooler pipe to a "TRANSMITTER INJECTION / SENDING UNIT F 9642789980" (nought clever...looked it up!) that I assume measures the intercooler vacuum / air pressure to bring the turbo in (I think?), it was sat hiding just under the air filter housing with two wires connected back to loom. The rubber pipe had a very very slight hiss when the engine was gunned...so replaced the rubber pipe with an old length of reinforced fuel line...took it out for a spin...drives like it did when new!!!! Phew! Whether it’s this good resultant to the repair or the fact I previously had replaced the MAF sensor and threw 3 bottles of injector cleaner down its throat it matters not...driving the dream now....only remains to order the proper tube to fit and satisfy curiosity if I had the function of this “switch” correct? Any offers? |
