Ok. Well where I work (a main dealer) its not only JUST and oil and filter we do. Every car get checked and made sure it has up to date software before leaving the workshop. It is also checked for outstanding recalls.
I don't think your backstreet garage can do all of that. It'll usually cost you in the long run when something happens to the car that could have been sorted with software and now some back street mechanic is throwing parts that your paying for at it that he THINKS will sort it! All in all its up to you!

Won't a quick phone call to Peugeot confirm if any software updates are required?
I've no gripes with Peugeot service parts, its just the labour costs that take the pee.

A phonecall won't do it. The car need to be physically connected to the server to know if there's software available for it.

Correct me if im wrong here david, but shouldnt a software update be a recall in its own sense?
If they have found issues with the software loaded from factory then surely it should be corrected on every vehicle out there, and not just the ones that come in to main delaers?? And to keep this on topic, ive always serviced my own cars Not only does it save a few quid but if you've had a good look around your own car you can spot issues yourself, and know the condition of things in your own mind!

Recalls are usually brought about by safety issues etc. Its European legislation. Just updating an ecu for no reason won't be covered by a manufacturer unless in warranty. Sure there has to be more than one reason for people to come back to the dealers.
