Default Peugeot 207 1.6HDi. Has the service overfilled my engine with oil ?

Hello there,

I have a 2007 Peugeot 206 1.6HDi ( 110hp) that is out of the service period. My dad went to a garage to get the oil changed. Had 4L's of Motul oil with him for the change. I forgot to tell him the capacity is 3.5L ( from what i've read over the internet, can't find official values) and apparently the mechanic didn't know what he was doing either so he put all 4L's of oil. Checking the dipstick now shows the oil well over full line. I'm thinking of getting an oil sucking pump and get some of the oil out.

My question is how bad putting 4L of oil in that engine is ?

Thanks

What sort of mechanic puts all the oil in without checking a few times along the way?
If you gave him ten litres would he have put all that in too!!

Yeah ! I thank the skies that i didn't bought 5L like i initially wanted. My dad said he checked a couple of times but he decided to put it all in ! He even said that this engine takes 4.5L lol

Anyway what is the correct (official) oil amount that should be added in the 1.6HDi with 109 hp on the 207 ?

Cheers

My mate overfilled his Seat Ibiza with oil, proper to the brim. Anyway he was driving and all of a sudden it started over-revving it's ass off and he couldn't do anything. In the end he had to force it out of gear and run away from the car.

The engine completely knackered and it was a write off.

Edit: Just to clarify, it revved to the max til it blew. he couldn't stop it.

jazz - sounds like a proper drowned engine...did he attempt turning the key off? or was he panicking that much? i know myself would be latter

alex...i would personally drain the oil using the sump bolt and refill to correct measures. could possibly even use the same oil if collected clean and no debris. oh and stay away from that mech in future.

Half a litre over shouldn't kill the engine but it wouldn't do the cat any good...

I checked the oil again ( without driving the car in this time) with the car sitting on a straight surface. Initially when i checked the front end of the car was sitting higher then the rear. Now the oil level is just one square below the full line. Seems ok, but 4L went in... Don't know what to think.

3.5l might well be the sump capacity. When you change the oil completely, the filter needs refilled too. Might explain the extra....
