Hi,
I have a few questions that I would appreciate being clarified: 1. Is it true that my Peugeot 207 (2010) will stop at 30,000km if I do not change the oil? (Or is it due to something else, like a reset button I've been reading about?) 2. I plan to drive to England from Hungary. The car was a showroom/demo car for Peugeot, run by Peugeot and only owned by Peugeot. I am the first owner and I got it with only 23,000km (not 24K km). Is it a good idea to not only check the oil level, but change the oil, before this journey? It is 1,800km one way so let's say 4,000km round-trip. I don't want to be stupid. 3. Why does doing an oil change myself or with a cheapy mechanic friend invalidate the warranty? Is it not just opening a plug and letting oil fall out, then pouring new oil in? How is that so 'technical' that Peugeot want to do it for a rip-off fee? (showing my ignorance with that one, I know). 4. Can I just drive in to the local Peugeot and say "Change the oil" and it will be 20 minutes, or will they try and make me pay for other stuff? I'm strong so not a problem to say shove it where the sun don't shine, please only change my oil! In other words, should it be done alongside other bits and bobs? The guy in Peugeot is a friend of the family and promised (I know, I know, but he is really a reliable chap) to have the car serviced and spruced up before letting us take it away. Perhaps that will affect how you answer my questions. Thanks in advance! One lives, one learns. |

1) No. You should get the spanner symbol indicating a service is due, but that's about it.
2) When did the car last have an oil change? How many miles have been done since then? If it were me I'd do it a week before, just to check its ok before embarking on a long journey. 3) I can't speak for your country, but in the UK retailers can no longer claim that doing work yourself will invalidate the warranty. 4) Again, can't speak for your dealer but they'd probably want you to book it in. They'll also charge you an oil disposal fee, whereas if you did it yourself you could take it to the local waste recycling centre.
