Default High wattage bulbs

I got out of the car there to pop a letter in the postbox. As car was still running, lights were on, I noticed smoke/steam lifting off the headlights. Touched them and they are hot. It was raining, dont know if that can impact it coming off, rain hitting very warm plastic.

I have high wattage bulbs in, these

Mind you, full beam was not on at time....

These,

And these for the sidelights....

Any thoughts.....

As long as all the connectors are ok I wouldn't worry. I sometimes make a little hole on the rubber cover on the back of lamp to let out excessive heat, say 10mm. Just drill it out.

Even standard 55W headlights are enough to make the plastic covers warm to the touch, and enough to dry off water

Yeah, why do you need illegal bulbs in your car?

Be slowly melting the cabling to the bulbs.... going from 4.5amps to almost 11amps is bound to have an impact on the designed power rating of the wiring

Have you got glass or plastic lenses cause dont you have to be carefull what bulbs you use on plastic lenses?

I was always led to believe that it would turn the lense a dirty brown sooner or later with the heat if wrong bulbs are fitted?

I always thought 55w was the limit too
