Default Cold Starting issue - 307 1.4 petrol

Hey Guys,

This on has stumped me I recently done a head gasket job on a Peugeot 307 1.4 TU engine 2002 Petrol.

Everything Fires up beautifully however on a cold start it starts and then chokes out it starts if I open the throttle body and give it a few seconds to warm it wont cut out.

Checked the Fuel pump its normal I think its air coming into the engine so I check and replace the Idle Air Control IAC and check all hoses for a vacuum leak cant find one.

I can disconnect the Mass Airflow Sensor it does not make a difference

One Notable thing is that the Rev Tachometer does not move during cold start and then jumps before it cuts out but does on warm starts when it works.

I think its a sensor fault however I have checked and cleans a few the Crank Position Sensor works I know this because the car wont start when its disconnected.

I have checked for a leak after replacing the gaskets on the inlet manifold but None can be seen.

Hopefully another mechanic will have seen this before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Dan

Hey thanks for reply

P0500 speed sensor fault A

On cold start and let it fail it mentioned manifold pressure too and 02 sensor but I think the O2 sensor is a red herring but if I run the car no codes at all.

Regards Dan

Thats not a crank sensor fault. Its an vehicle speed sensor fault. If i was you id scope the vehicle speed sensor see what signal is being generated. Its on the gearbox.
Has there been any other work carried out on the car?

Theres a vehicle speed sensor on the gearbox. The vehicle speed is also taken from the front wheel speed sensors.
