Default Cleaning the MAF

What's the best stuff for cleaning the MAF? The mesh and sensor bits on my 407 are a bit grimy.

Standard carb cleaner with the MAF disconnected and leave to dry?

And is the turbo servicable? Noticed a bit of oil and grime on the air pipe.

I spayed mine with contact cleaner - seeing as it is just a wire that gets hot and the temperature measured I think it is probably difficult to damage with conventional cleaners

I used carb cleaner, work as effective as anything else, it's probably all the same stuff!?

Innotec do a Turbo cleaning kit which is supposed to be pretty effective, I've not used it myself so I can't really back it up. Depending on the extent you are willing to go but I would recommend taking your intercooler out and giving it a proper good clean.

I took mine out and I spend the best part of 2 hours flushing the shit out of it, when refitted it did actually make a difference.

I did a test with a hair dryer before and after, it was substantially better once it had been cleaned, it was apparent right from the onset that even the water flowing through from the hose pipe was weak before I cleaned it.

On the 407 it is really easy to remove, so there really is no reason not to do it.

Phil

Thanks guys, a Google search also brought up contact cleaner and carb cleaner, but they linked to threads on fora dating back to 2006, its nice to get a fresh perspective.

Another Googling also brought up the Innotec stuff. Worth a go for about £25. I'll see if the local motor factors has some in and report back my findings if I get some.
