Default Brake pads - anyone else had this?

Hey guys,

Hope this is in the right topic! Just a question if anyone else can offer some reassurance to me on this:

I have a Peugeot 206 1.1, and it had a whirring/grinding sound when I released my foot from the accelerator pedal. I was told by 2 garages that it could be a gearbox error, but when I took it to be properly examined the guy found my brake pads were fitted back-to-front and weren't fitted properly with the clips etc! Shocking!

The whirring sound is a little quieter, but it's still there... apparently this could be due to the small damage done by the pads being back to front previously? I'm just wondering if I have anything to worry about that there's still a subtle whir there... I am not the most car savvy person! Maybe lubricating the pads would rid of the quiet sound for good?

Hope that made sense! Thanks!!

With regards to copper greasing the rear of the pads - not worth doing imo. My pads are greased with shims and they still squeal like a bloke with his bits caught in a mincer.

I expect someone's taking the michael. The pads would not fit if there were in back to front. Go and talk to someone who has some mechanical knowledge.

What's being British got to do with anything?

I can't see how pads can be back to front - all the ones I've ever used are symmetrical and all identical - not an inside/outside and a top/bottom of pad. If the springs weren't put in, the pads wouldn't have fitted and would have been loose - easy to see this without being a mechanic. I would find someone else who knows what a car is

Did the bloke who told you this find out by spinning his diagnosis wheel?

"Hi there's a creaking noise coming from the back left wheel when I drive"

"Hold on a sec" *whizzzzzzz*

"Yep, exactly what I thought, you need an engine replacement"

However, it's good that you took it to more than one place, because you'll always have your eyes ripped out on first place.

I'm also baffled to the british comment

I thought she said Irish, so I liked it. Then I read it again and it said British so I unliked.

Besides, if Andy Murray ain't British, he's scottish, then I'm not British, I'm English.
donp and elmafudd like this.

Only when he`s losing is he Scottish , it`s a wonder Rory McIlroy isn`t British yet , you guys will try to get a win anywhere , must be terrible waiting since 1966 , do like us get drunk before the final result and then it doesn`t matter.
